ESPN: Chelsea must salute Terry

Chelsea have declared that Antonio Conte is going to become the team’s new head coach next season, and the media keep guessing what changes this Italian coach will make to the team this summer. The most concerned issue is Chelsea’s captain Terry’s go-or-stay. ESPN points out that Chelsea must salute this legend defende, no matter whether he leaves or stays.

Terry’s Chelsea contract ends when the season finishes, and Chelsea’s top management obviously hope to let Conte decide his future. Conte last week went to meet Chelsea’s players at Cobham training ground. Chelsea has done a good job in changing head coach, but they need to do more in conciliating their fans.

ESPN tells lots of Chelsea’s fans were very unhappy when the club last December sacked Mourinho who was loved by the fans. Chelsea did not do great in purging great players in the past. ESPN says Terry deserves the banner “captain, leader, legend” held by the fans previously, and this legend captain who made 701 appearances for the team means more than Mourinho to the team’s fans. Therefore, no matter whether 35-year-old Terry leaves or stays when the season ends, Chelsea should salute this great captain in some way.
